When Bare Branding was set up as a community interest company in 2018 we had a strong desire to make our professional printing facilities and know-how available to the wider community. The aim was to provide a welcoming space where local groups, artists and makers could develop their ideas and widen their printmaking knowledge and expertise, regardless of their previous levels of experience.

Our motto, Making The Makers, reflects this desire. We believe there’s a lot of untapped talent in and around Leith in need of such an opportunity.

In the last few years, Bare Branding’s open access print workshop has welcomed a diverse range of artists and makers and we’re delighted that many have gone on to sell through local businesses such as the Scottish Design Exchange, Logan Malloch and Leith Collective.

In that time, we’ve also had the pleasure of working with many of the local groups and businesses that help to make our community. These have included:

  • schools and local charities such as The Citadel, Multi Cultural Family Base and Bethany Christian Trust

  • successful local campaigns like Save Leith Walk and SOS Leith

  • local employers, both old and new, including George Brown and Sons, Leith Market and Pilot Beer

  • cultural and sporting bodies such as Leith Festival and Leith FAB cricket club

  • art spaces such as Quality Yard, Bloc Gallery and The Fruitmarket

  • events and exhibitions for museums and galleries

  • local bands and music labels

  • bars and cafes

Sadly the COVID-19 pandemic has, for now, curtailed some of the face-to-face work we do with these groups and businesses. In its aftermath, whatever change businesses have to make, we are determined to continue with our strong community-minded approach.
